IN YOUR OWN WORDS, DESCRIBE WHAT HAPPENED

I took my dog out for a late night walk as I wanted to see Comet Neowise. While I didn't see the comet, I spotted the light as it passed overhead. It was silent, steady and consistent in its movement.

Investigator Comments

Given that the witness was near military establishments and a civil airfield, your first thoughts could be that it was an aircraft of some sort. It sort of fits the behaviour of a quadcopter/drone. There was, however, no obvious sound coming from the airborne object. Loud propeller sounds are something that you'd expect from a quadcopter. If it was a drone, you would expect to hear its props clearly, especially as it moves. But how far was it from the observer? Due to the colour, we can safely rule out Chinese lanterns and it’s movements we can run out satellites. Despite the objects apparent silence, we can’t 100% rule out an aircraft with landing lights on, though we do know that Belfast City Airport isn’t a 24 hour airport and would tend to close by the time stated by the witness.

I’ve sent an email asking the airport if they had detected anything in the skies in that area at this time. But, as per, we probably won’t get a response.

Hynek Classification:
